Overview

This 8-day trekking combo is designed for travelers with limited time who still want to experience both Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. The 3-day Mount Meru climb offers basic acclimatization, while the 5-day Machame Route provides a fast but scenic ascent to Uhuru Peak.

The journey begins in Arusha, with trekking inside Arusha National Park, followed by Kilimanjaro’s most popular route.

Detailed Itinerary

Mount Meru – 3 Days

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

  • Altitude: 1,500m → 2,500m
  • Trek through rainforest with wildlife sightings
  • Overnight at Miriakamba Hut

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

  • Altitude: 2,500m → 3,570m
  • Trek through forest and moorland
  • Overnight at Saddle Hut

Day 3: Summit Socialist Peak → Descend to Momella Gate

  • Early summit attempt (4,566m)
  • Sunrise views with Kilimanjaro in the distance
  • Full descent and transfer to hotel in Arusha/Moshi

Machame Route – 5 Days

Day 4: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Altitude: 1,800m → 2,835m
  • Rainforest trekking
  • Overnight at Machame Camp

Day 5: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Altitude: 2,835m → 3,840m
  • Moorland trek with scenic views
  • Overnight at Shira Camp

Day 6: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

  • Altitude: 3,840m → 4,640m → 3,950m
  • Acclimatization day (climb high, sleep low)
  • Overnight at Barranco Camp

Day 7: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Climb Barranco Wall
  • Continue via Karanga to Barafu Camp (4,600m)
  • Prepare for summit

Day 8: Summit Uhuru Peak → Mweka Gate

  • Midnight summit attempt (5,895m)
  • Sunrise at the summit
  • Descend via Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
  • Transfer back to hotel – End of adventure
