Marangu Route 4 days itinerary

 Overview

The Marangu Route, often known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It approaches the mountain from the southeast and is the only Kilimanjaro route where climbers stay in mountain huts rather than camping in tents.

A 4-day Marangu itinerary is a short and demanding option, with a rapid ascent that allows limited time for acclimatization. The route passes through several distinct ecological zones, beginning in the lush rainforest and progressing through moorland, alpine desert, and finally the high-altitude summit zone. Climbers typically spend the first days ascending through Mandara Hut, Horombo Hut, and Kibo Hut, followed by the summit attempt to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).

The final summit day is particularly strenuous because climbers begin the ascent around midnight and must descend a significant distance afterward. For this reason, the 4-day itinerary requires good physical preparation and is generally less suitable for first-time high-altitude trekkers than longer itineraries that provide additional acclimatization time.
