Arusha/Moshi → Momella Gate → Miriakamba Hut
Start early from Arusha or Moshi and drive to Arusha National Park, where you complete registration at Momella Gate. The trek then begins through the beautiful montane forest.
As you climb, you may see wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and different bird species. A ranger accompanies the group because of the wildlife in the area. Continue to Miriakamba Hut, where you spend the night.
Miriakamba Hut → Socialist Peak → Momella Gate
Begin the day very early and climb toward Saddle Hut before continuing to Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru at approximately 4,566 m.
After enjoying the summit views, including possible views toward Mount Kilimanjaro, descend through the same mountain area toward Momella Gate. From the gate, transfer to your hotel for rest before starting the Kilimanjaro section.
Machame Gate → Machame Camp
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate and complete registration. Begin the climb through the lush rainforest.
The trail gradually becomes steeper as you move higher through the forest. After several hours, reach Machame Camp, where you spend the night.
Machame Camp → Shira Camp
After breakfast, continue climbing out of the rainforest toward the Shira Plateau.
The landscape changes from dense forest to open moorland and alpine vegetation. As you gain altitude, you can enjoy wide views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.
Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
This is an important acclimatization day. The trail climbs toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 m, before descending to Barranco Camp.
The route provides spectacular views of Kilimanjaro's volcanic landscape. The descent to Barranco helps your body adjust to the altitude before the higher stages of the climb.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
After breakfast, begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. The trail involves some steep and rocky sections but offers impressive views once you reach the top.
Continue through valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp, where you spend the night. This shorter day provides additional time for rest and acclimatization.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
Continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt.
The landscape becomes increasingly rocky and alpine as you climb higher. After arriving at Barafu, have an early meal and rest. You will prepare for the midnight or early-morning summit attempt.
Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
The summit day begins very early, usually around midnight. Trek slowly through the cold and darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim.
From Stella Point, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating the summit and taking photographs, begin the descent to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp.
