Marangu Route 4 days travel package
Overview
Experience the majesty of Mount Kilimanjaro on a 4-day Marangu Route trekking package, one of Tanzania’s most iconic mountain adventures. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is famous for its established trekking path, scenic landscapes, and comfortable mountain-hut accommodation.
This Kilimanjaro travel package takes you through a remarkable sequence of natural environments, from the lush tropical rainforest to the open moorlands, alpine desert, and the spectacular high-altitude summit zone. The ultimate goal is Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa.
The package is suitable for adventurous travelers looking for a compact Kilimanjaro experience. However, the 4-day schedule is demanding because of the rapid elevation gain and limited acclimatization time.

Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a transfer from Moshi to Marangu Gate. After completing registration and park formalities, you meet your trekking team and begin your ascent.
The trail enters the beautiful montane rainforest, where the environment is lush and cool. Tall trees, mosses, ferns, and mountain vegetation create a spectacular natural setting. Depending on conditions, you may also see monkeys and different bird species.
Continue through the forest toward Mandara Hut, where you have dinner and spend your first night on the mountain.
Distance: Approximately 8 km Trekking time: 3–4 hours Elevation: 1,860 m → 2,700 m Landscape: Montane rainforest Overnight: Mandara Hut
Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
After breakfast, continue climbing through the upper forest before entering the heath and moorland zone.
The landscape becomes more open, with distinctive high-altitude vegetation and expansive mountain views. As you gain elevation, views of Mawenzi and Kibo may become visible.
Continue steadily to Horombo Hut, where you will have dinner and rest for the night.
Distance: Approximately 11 km Trekking time: 5–7 hours Elevation: 2,700 m → 3,720 m Landscape: Heath and moorland Overnight: Horombo Hut
Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
After breakfast, continue toward Kibo Hut, crossing the high-altitude Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo.
The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as you enter the alpine desert. The dramatic volcanic landscape and views of Kibo make this section particularly memorable.
Arrive at Kibo Hut, have an early dinner, and rest in preparation for the summit attempt, which normally begins around midnight.
Distance: Approximately 9–10 km Trekking time: 5–7 hours Elevation: 3,720 m → 4,700 m Landscape: Alpine desert Overnight: Kibo Hut
Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Descent
The summit day begins around midnight. After a light snack, start the challenging ascent toward the crater rim.
The climb continues toward Gilman's Point, followed by the crater-rim section toward Stella Point and then onward to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m.
Reach the summit around sunrise, weather permitting, and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding landscape. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, begin the long descent.
Depending on the specific 4-day package arrangement, the descent may finish at Horombo Hut or Marangu Gate. A conventional Marangu itinerary normally requires an additional day to complete the descent to the gate.
