Marangu Route 4 days hiking tour
The 4 Days Marangu Route Hiking Tour offers an unforgettable opportunity to explore Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, through one of its most established and scenic trekking routes. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” the Marangu Route is famous for its well-defined trail, beautiful landscapes, and mountain hut accommodation.
During this four-day adventure, you will hike through the diverse ecological zones of Kilimanjaro, beginning in the lush tropical rainforest and progressing through moorland and alpine desert before making the challenging ascent toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet).
This itinerary is a demanding and fast-paced option with limited acclimatization time. It is therefore particularly suitable for experienced hikers or travelers who have limited time and are well prepared for high-altitude trekking.

Fitness and Preparation
The four-day Marangu itinerary involves long hiking days and a demanding summit ascent. Good physical preparation is strongly recommended.
Before the trek, prepare with regular walking, hiking, cardiovascular exercise, stair climbing, and strength training. It is also important to become familiar with hiking at a steady pace and carrying a daypack.
Physical fitness alone does not prevent altitude-related illness. Proper acclimatization, gradual pacing, hydration, nutrition, and following your mountain guide’s advice are essential.
Best Time for the Marangu Route
Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed throughout the year. However, many travelers prefer the relatively drier periods:
-
January to March
-
June to October
Mountain weather can change quickly, so trekkers should be prepared for rain, cold temperatures, strong winds, and significantly colder conditions near the summit.

Along the trail, you may enjoy impressive views of the surrounding landscape and, in clear weather, glimpses of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
The trail continues toward Horombo Hut, one of the main overnight camps on the Marangu Route. Here you will have dinner and rest while preparing for the summit section.

Day three is the most challenging and rewarding part of the adventure.
You will begin the summit ascent very early, usually around midnight. The trail crosses the alpine desert toward Kibo Hut, followed by a demanding ascent over steep and rocky terrain toward the crater rim.
After reaching Gilman's Point, you continue along the crater rim toward Stella Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
At the summit, take time to celebrate your achievement and enjoy the extraordinary views before beginning the descent.
You will descend to Horombo Hut, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Trekkers who successfully reach the summit may receive their Kilimanjaro summit certificate before being transferred back to their hotel in Moshi.
