Marangu Route 4 Days Mountain Trek
The 4-Day Marangu Route Mountain Trek is one of the classic ways to experience Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Often known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is popular for its well-established trail, scenic landscapes, and overnight accommodation in mountain huts rather than tents.
This challenging trek takes you through several distinct vegetation zones, from lush rainforest to alpine desert, before the demanding summit ascent to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) above sea level.
The 4-day itinerary is a fast-paced option designed for experienced trekkers or travelers with limited time. Because the itinerary provides less time for acclimatization than longer Kilimanjaro programs, good preparation, appropriate pacing, and careful attention to altitude symptoms are particularly important.

Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
Altitude: Approximately 2,720 m to 3,720 m Trekking time: Approximately 6–8 hours Habitat: Moorland and heather
After breakfast, you continue your ascent through the upper rainforest before entering the moorland zone. The landscape becomes more open, with giant heather plants and impressive views of the surrounding mountain terrain.

Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Altitude: Horombo 3,720 m → Kibo 4,703 m → Uhuru Peak 5,895 m Trekking time: Approximately 12–16 hours Habitat: Alpine desert
This is the most demanding day of the trek. You will begin very early, typically around midnight, depending on your guide's assessment and weather conditions.
The trail crosses the alpine desert toward Kibo Hut, followed by the steep ascent toward Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. From there, the trail continues along the crater rim toward Stella Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro.
At the summit, take time to celebrate your achievement and enjoy the spectacular views before beginning the descent.
You will descend to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight rest.

Altitude: Approximately 3,720 m to 1,860 m Trekking time: Approximately 5–7 hours Habitat: Moorland and rainforest
After breakfast, you begin the final descent through the moorland and rainforest zones. The lower altitude and downhill trail make this section considerably easier than the summit day.
