Meru 4 Days Machame 10 Days Trek
The Meru 4 Days Machame 10 Days Trek is an extended Tanzania mountain adventure combining the spectacular Mount Meru trek with a carefully paced 10-day ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route. It is ideal for trekkers who want to experience two of Tanzania’s iconic mountains while allowing plenty of time for acclimatization and exploration.
The adventure begins on Mount Meru, where you trek through the beautiful landscapes of Arusha National Park. After completing the four-day Meru climb, you have time to rest and prepare before starting the Machame Route on Kilimanjaro.
The 10-day Machame itinerary provides a gradual journey toward the summit, passing through several ecological zones before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.

Mount Meru 4-Day Trek
Mount Meru Trek
Mount Meru, located inside Arusha National Park, rises to approximately 4,566 metres (14,980 feet). It is a striking volcanic mountain with a dramatic crater, steep cliffs and a distinctive horseshoe-shaped summit ridge.
The Meru climb offers a completely different experience from Kilimanjaro. The lower slopes pass through lush forest and wildlife-rich surroundings, while higher elevations transition into open moorland, alpine vegetation and volcanic terrain.
One of the highlights is reaching Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru. From the upper mountain, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of Meru’s crater and, when weather conditions are favourable, impressive views toward Mount Kilimanjaro.
Because the mountain is situated within a national park, trekkers may encounter wildlife during the lower sections. An armed park ranger normally accompanies trekking groups in areas where wildlife encounters are possible.

Kilimanjaro Machame 10-Day Trek
The Machame Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic approaches. It is sometimes referred to as the “Whiskey Route” and is known for its varied landscapes, challenging terrain and opportunities for gradual acclimatization.
The route crosses several ecological zones, beginning in tropical rainforest and eventually reaching the barren, high-altitude environment around the summit.
A 10-day Machame program provides an extended mountain experience, allowing the climb to progress at a comparatively gradual pace and providing additional time for acclimatization compared with shorter Kilimanjaro programs.
The ultimate objective is Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet).

Why Choose a 4-Day Meru and 10-Day Machame Trek?
This combined itinerary is designed for travelers who want an extended mountain experience rather than a rushed climb. Mount Meru offers a challenging introduction to Tanzania’s mountain environment, while the 10-day Machame Route provides additional time to acclimatize and enjoy Kilimanjaro’s diverse landscapes.
The itinerary also includes a rest period between the two climbs, giving you time to recover from Mount Meru before beginning the Kilimanjaro trek.
However, completing Mount Meru does not guarantee that you will be immune to altitude-related problems on Kilimanjaro. Altitude affects each person differently, so maintaining a slow pace, staying hydrated, communicating with your guide, and following mountain safety recommendations remain important.
Best Time to Trek Meru and Kilimanjaro
Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed during much of the year. Many trekkers prefer the relatively drier periods, particularly around June to October and January to February.
Weather can change quickly at high elevations, and rain or cold conditions are possible outside these periods. Your clothing and equipment should therefore be prepared for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions.

A suitable packing list for this combined trek should include:
-
Sturdy waterproof hiking boots
-

Warm fleece and insulated jacket

Meru 4 Days Machame 10 Days Trek – An Extended Tanzania Mountain Adventure
The Meru 4 Days Machame 10 Days Trek brings together two remarkable mountain experiences in one journey. From the forests and volcanic landscapes of Mount Meru to the high-altitude slopes and summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the itinerary offers a varied and immersive trekking experience.
With a gradual approach, dedicated rest time, and an experienced mountain crew, you can focus on enjoying the landscapes, adapting to the altitude, and making the most of every stage of your Tanzanian mountain adventure.
Why Combine Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro?
Combining the two mountains creates a comprehensive trekking experience in northern Tanzania.
Mount Meru provides an opportunity to experience high-altitude trekking before attempting Kilimanjaro. It also allows trekkers to explore a different volcanic landscape and experience the natural environment of Arusha National Park.
The longer Kilimanjaro program then provides additional time on the mountain, which can be valuable for acclimatization and adapting to progressively higher elevations.
The combination also means that the trip is not limited to one type of scenery. Trekkers experience forests, wildlife habitats, volcanic formations, open moorlands, alpine desert and glaciated high-altitude landscapes.
