Marangu Route 4 days

Overview

The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet). Also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” it approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeastern side and is well known for its established trail and mountain-hut accommodation.

The 4-day Marangu Route is a short and demanding Kilimanjaro trekking program. It takes trekkers through several distinct ecological zones, beginning in the lush rainforest and continuing through heath and moorland, alpine desert, and the high-altitude summit zone.

Unlike routes that use tents, Marangu provides accommodation in permanent mountain huts. The trek does not normally require technical climbing skills, but the high altitude, cold conditions, long trekking hours, and rapid ascent make it physically challenging.

The ultimate objective is Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa.
