Coca-Cola Route 4 Days
4 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking via the Marangu Route
The 4 Days Coca-Cola Route is a classic Mount Kilimanjaro trekking experience designed for travelers looking to climb Africa’s highest mountain via the famous Marangu Route.
Known as the Coca-Cola Route, Marangu is one of the most established and recognizable routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is particularly distinctive because trekkers stay in mountain huts rather than tents throughout the climb.
Over four days, the route takes you from the lush tropical rainforest at the foot of Kilimanjaro through the moorland and alpine desert zones before reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet).
The journey is physically demanding, especially because the four-day itinerary provides limited time for acclimatization. However, with appropriate preparation, an experienced mountain crew, and a steady pace, the trek offers an unforgettable opportunity to experience one of Africa’s most iconic natural landmarks.

June to October: A popular period for climbing Kilimanjaro, with generally drier conditions and good opportunities for clear mountain views.

Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
Starting Elevation: 1,860 m Mandara Hut: 2,720 m Distance: Approximately 8 km Trekking Time: 4–5 hours Habitat: Rainforest
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a morning transfer to Marangu Gate, where you complete the necessary registration and park entry procedures.
From the gate, the trail enters the lush montane rainforest. The atmosphere is cool and green, with tall trees, dense vegetation, birds, and the possibility of spotting wildlife along the route.
The trail gradually climbs through the forest toward Mandara Hut, your first overnight destination.
After arriving at the hut, you can relax and enjoy a well-earned meal while taking in the peaceful surroundings. Your guide will also brief you about the next day's trek.
Overnight: Mandara Hut Meals: Lunch and dinner
Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
Mandara Hut: 2,720 m Horombo Hut: 3,720 m Distance: Approximately 12 km Trekking Time: 6–8 hours Habitat: Moorland
After breakfast, you leave the rainforest behind and continue through the beautiful moorland zone.
The vegetation becomes more open as you gain altitude, and the views become increasingly expansive. Depending on weather conditions, you may enjoy views of Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak, two of Kilimanjaro's major volcanic cones.
The steady climb eventually brings you to Horombo Hut, located at approximately 3,720 metres.
This is an important stage of the trek because the increasing altitude becomes more noticeable. Maintaining a slow, consistent pace and drinking plenty of water are essential.
Overnight: Horombo Hut Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
Horombo Hut: 3,720 m Kibo Hut: 4,703 m Distance: Approximately 9–10 km Trekking Time: 6–8 hours Habitat: Alpine desert
Today's trek takes you deeper into the high-altitude environment of Kilimanjaro.
After breakfast, you continue toward Kibo Hut, crossing the distinctive alpine landscape known as the Saddle. This broad, open area lies between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
Vegetation becomes increasingly sparse as you climb, and the landscape takes on a rugged, almost otherworldly appearance.
Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you will have time to rest and prepare for the summit attempt. Dinner is served early, followed by a final briefing from your guide.
Because the summit climb begins around midnight, getting as much rest as possible is important.
Overnight: Kibo Hut Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Kibo Hut: 4,703 m Uhuru Peak: 5,895 m Trekking Time: Approximately 12–15+ hours Habitat: Alpine desert and moorland
The final day begins in the early hours of the morning.
After a light snack or breakfast, you start your summit attempt in darkness. The trail climbs gradually over steep and rocky terrain toward the crater rim.
Depending on your pace and conditions, you pass points such as Gilman's Point and Stella Point before continuing toward Uhuru Peak.
The final section can be physically demanding because of the altitude and cold temperatures. Your guide will help you maintain a slow, controlled pace and monitor your condition throughout the ascent.
Then comes the highlight of your Kilimanjaro adventure:
Uhuru Peak – 5,895 Metres
Standing at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, is an extraordinary experience. After days of trekking through changing landscapes, you have reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Take photographs, enjoy the achievement, and spend a few moments appreciating the vast scenery before beginning your descent.
You descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down toward Horombo Hut, where you spend your final night on the mountain.
Overnight: Horombo Hut Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
