Why Choose the Mount Meru 3 Days & Machame Route 6 Days Package?
Two Mountains in One Adventure
This combination gives you the opportunity to climb both Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro during a single Tanzania trekking holiday. It is suitable for travelers looking for a diverse and challenging mountain experience.
Acclimatization Experience
The Mount Meru trek provides several days of trekking at increasing elevations before the Kilimanjaro ascent. The 6-day Machame Route then provides further exposure to altitude as you progress toward the summit.
Scenic Machame Route
Machame is renowned for its changing landscapes. You will move from tropical rainforest into open heath and moorland before reaching the rocky alpine desert and high-altitude summit environment.
Wildlife and Wilderness
Mount Meru is situated inside Arusha National Park, providing opportunities to experience Tanzania’s wildlife and wilderness alongside mountain trekking. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, and an armed ranger is normally required for the Meru trek.
Challenging Kilimanjaro Summit
The 6-day Machame itinerary offers a direct and demanding route toward Uhuru Peak. Trekkers should be prepared for significant altitude gain and a challenging summit day.
Experienced Mountain Support
Professional guides and porters support the expedition throughout the trek, assisting with navigation, camp logistics, meals, luggage, and mountain safety.
Best Time for the Mount Meru 3 Days and Machame Route 6 Days
The generally favorable periods for this combined mountain adventure are the drier months from January to early March and June to October. These periods normally offer more favorable trekking conditions, better trail conditions, and improved opportunities for clear mountain views.
January and February are popular for mountain trekking, while June through October provides another extended dry-season window. Mountain weather remains unpredictable, however, and trekkers should be prepared for cold temperatures, rain, wind, and changing conditions at higher elevations.
The March to May period generally receives more rainfall, while November can bring shorter rains. December can also be suitable for trekking, although weather conditions may vary.
Recommended Trekking Periods
- January – February: Generally dry and favorable for trekking
- Early March: Good conditions before the main long-rain period
- June – October: Popular dry-season trekking period
- November: Short rains and variable conditions
- December: Often suitable, with some possibility of rain
- March – May: Wetter period requiring additional preparation

Continue gradually uphill toward Miriakamba Hut, enjoying the peaceful forest environment and views of the surrounding volcanic landscape.

Accommodation: Saddle Hut Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak and Momella Gate
Begin the summit ascent in the early hours, following the crater ridge toward Socialist Peak (4,566m). From the summit, enjoy expansive views across Arusha National Park and, when weather permits, views toward Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 6: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Today's route is an important acclimatization section as you climb toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,600m before descending toward Barranco Camp.

Day 7: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, climb the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most memorable sections of the Machame Route. The route involves scrambling over rocky sections before continuing through the alpine landscape.

Day 8: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Trek toward Barafu Camp, the final high camp before the summit attempt. The vegetation becomes sparse as you enter the alpine desert zone.
At Barafu, the mountain crew prepares you for the summit ascent. Rest, hydrate, organize your equipment, and conserve energy for the demanding summit day ahead.
Accommodation: Barafu Camp Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 9: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate
Begin the summit ascent during the early hours, climbing toward Stella Point before continuing around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
After reaching the summit, begin the long descent toward Mweka Camp and continue down toward Mweka Gate, where the Kilimanjaro trek officially ends. After completing park formalities and receiving your summit certificate, transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
