Moshi/Arusha → Momella Gate → Miriakamba Hut
Start your journey in the morning from Moshi or Arusha and drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After completing registration and other park formalities, meet your guide and begin the trek toward Miriakamba Hut.
The trail passes through beautiful forest and open areas, where you may see wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and different bird species. The route gradually climbs as you enjoy views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Meru.
Continue hiking toward Miriakamba Hut, located at about 2,514 meters. After arriving, settle into the hut, enjoy your meals, and rest well as you prepare for the early and more challenging climb to Socialist Peak the following day.
Miriakamba Hut → Socialist Peak → Momella Gate
Start the day very early from Miriakamba Hut and continue climbing toward Saddle Hut before heading to Socialist Peak. The trail becomes steeper as you gain altitude, so maintain a slow and steady pace.
Continue from Saddle Hut toward Socialist Peak at about 4,566 meters. From the summit, enjoy impressive views of Mount Meru, the surrounding landscapes, and, when visibility is good, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
After spending some time at the summit, begin the descent back toward Momella Gate. Once you reach the gate, meet your vehicle and transfer to Moshi or Arusha for rest and preparation for the next stage of the Machame Route.
Machame Gate → Machame Camp
After breakfast, leave Moshi or Arusha and drive to Machame Gate. Complete registration and park formalities before starting the trek through the lush rainforest of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The trail gradually climbs through dense forest, with beautiful trees, plants, and birdlife along the way. The pace is steady to allow your body to recover from the Mount Meru trek and begin adjusting to the Kilimanjaro environment.
Continue hiking until you reach Machame Camp, where you will have dinner and spend the night. Rest well and prepare for the next day's trek toward the Shira Plateau.
Machame Camp → Shira Camp
After breakfast, leave Machame Camp and continue climbing toward the Shira Plateau. The trail gradually becomes steeper as you leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, with open landscapes and beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Continue across the scenic Shira Plateau while enjoying the changing vegetation and mountain scenery. The trek is steady and helps your body continue adapting to the increasing altitude.
Arrive at Shira Camp, settle in, and enjoy your meals before resting for the night. Use the evening to prepare for the next day's trek toward Lava Tower and Barranco Camp.
Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
After breakfast, leave Shira Camp and continue trekking toward Lava Tower. The trail gradually climbs through the high-altitude landscape, with rocky terrain and impressive views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Reach Lava Tower at about 4,630 meters, where you can take a short rest and have lunch. Afterward, descend toward Barranco Camp. This climb-high, sleep-low section helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude.
Continue through the alpine landscape until you reach Barranco Camp. Enjoy dinner and rest while preparing for the next day's climb of the famous Barranco Wall.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
After breakfast, leave Barranco Camp and begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. The trail is steep and rocky in some sections, but the views of the surrounding valleys and Mount Kilimanjaro are impressive.
After reaching the top of the Barranco Wall, continue across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. The trail passes through rocky terrain and high-altitude vegetation as you gradually gain elevation.
Arrive at Karanga Camp in the afternoon, enjoy your meals, and rest for the night. Prepare for the next day's trek toward Barafu Camp, the starting point for the summit attempt.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
After breakfast, leave Karanga Camp and continue trekking toward Barafu Camp. The trail passes through a dry and rocky alpine landscape with little vegetation as you climb higher toward the summit zone.
The route gradually becomes steeper, and the increasing altitude may make the trek more demanding. Walk slowly and maintain a steady pace while enjoying views of the mountain slopes and surrounding peaks.
Arrive at Barafu Camp and settle in for the night. Have your meals, prepare your summit equipment, and rest early because the final climb to Uhuru Peak will begin during the night.
Barafu Camp → Stella Point → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Start the summit attempt very early, usually around midnight, from Barafu Camp. Trek slowly through the cold and darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim, taking short breaks to manage the challenging altitude.
From Stella Point, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, enjoy the impressive views and take photographs before beginning the descent.
Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and then continue down toward Mweka Camp. After the long and demanding day, enjoy dinner and rest well at the camp.
Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi/Arusha
After breakfast, leave Mweka Camp and begin the final descent through the rainforest. The trail gradually becomes easier as you lose altitude, with beautiful forest scenery and fresh mountain air along the way.
Continue hiking toward Mweka Gate, where you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your summit certificates if applicable. After completing the formalities, meet your vehicle and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
Enjoy a well-deserved rest at your hotel after completing the combined Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro adventure.
