Trekking Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Africa is one of the most popular ways to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” the Marangu Route is the only Kilimanjaro trail offering hut accommodation, making it ideal for climbers who prefer comfort over camping.
This route takes you through diverse ecosystems—from rainforest to alpine desert—before reaching the iconic summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Suggested 5–6 Days Marangu Route Itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut
Begin your trek from Marangu Gate. Hike through dense rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,720m).
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut
Trek through moorland with stunning views. Overnight at Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Day 3: Acclimatization Day – Horombo Hut (Recommended)
Optional hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000m) for altitude adaptation.
Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut
Cross the alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,700m). Prepare for summit night.
Day 5: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak. Celebrate at the Roof of Africa, then descend to Horombo Hut.
Day 6: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate
Final descent through rainforest. Receive your summit certificate.
Accommodation on the Marangu Route

- Kibo Hut – Basic alpine shelter before summit
