Momella Gate → Miriakamba Hut
Start early from Arusha or Moshi and drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After registration and meeting your ranger and trekking team, begin the hike through the beautiful montane forest.
As you climb, the trail passes through lush vegetation and scenic areas where you may see wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and different bird species. The route gradually becomes steeper as you approach Miriakamba Hut.
After several hours of trekking, arrive at Miriakamba Hut, where you will have time to rest, enjoy your meals, and prepare for the next day's climb toward Socialist Peak.
Miriakamba Hut → Socialist Peak → Momella Gate
Start very early from Miriakamba Hut and continue climbing toward Saddle Hut. The trail becomes steeper as you move higher, passing through open mountain vegetation and rocky sections.
From Saddle Hut, continue toward Socialist Peak at approximately 4,566 meters. After reaching the summit, take time to enjoy the impressive views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscapes, and on clear days, views toward Mount Kilimanjaro.
After the summit, descend through Saddle Hut toward Momella Gate. Once you reach the gate, you will be transferred to your hotel for rest and preparation for the upcoming Kilimanjaro Machame Route climb.
Machame Gate → Machame Camp
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate, where you complete registration and prepare for the Kilimanjaro climb. The trek then begins through the lush rainforest of the Machame Route.
The trail gradually climbs through dense vegetation, with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and mountain slopes. The path can be muddy or slippery, especially after rain, so steady walking is important.
After several hours of trekking, arrive at Machame Camp, located at around 3,000 meters. Enjoy dinner and rest at the campsite as you prepare for the next day's trek toward the Shira Plateau.
Machame Camp → Shira Camp
After breakfast, leave Machame Camp and continue climbing toward the Shira Plateau. The trail passes through changing vegetation as you leave the rainforest and enter the open moorland zone.
The route becomes steeper, but you will enjoy beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding valleys. Continue across the scenic Shira Plateau toward Shira Camp.
After reaching Shira Camp, settle in, enjoy your meals, and rest for the next stage of the climb.
Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
After breakfast, leave Shira Camp and continue trekking toward Lava Tower. The trail gradually climbs through the high-altitude landscape, with rocky terrain and beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
As you approach Lava Tower at around 4,630 meters, the altitude becomes more noticeable. After a short rest, begin descending toward Barranco Camp. This climb-high, sleep-low approach helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude.
Continue through the scenic alpine landscape until you reach Barranco Camp. Enjoy dinner and rest at the camp while preparing for the next day's trek up the Barranco Wall.
Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
After breakfast, leave Barranco Camp and begin the climb up the famous Barranco Wall. The trail is steep and rocky in some sections, but you can enjoy impressive views of the surrounding valleys and Mount Kilimanjaro.
After reaching the top of the Barranco Wall, continue across several ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. The trail offers a mixture of rocky terrain and high-altitude vegetation as you gradually gain elevation.
Arrive at Karanga Camp in the afternoon and settle in for the night. Enjoy your meals and rest well as you prepare for the next day's trek toward Barafu Camp.
Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
After breakfast, leave Karanga Camp and continue trekking toward Barafu Camp. The trail passes through a dry, rocky alpine landscape with little vegetation as you climb higher.
The route gradually becomes steeper, and the high altitude can make the trek more demanding. Take a steady pace and enjoy the views of the surrounding mountain slopes and peaks.
Arrive at Barafu Camp, the main base for the summit attempt. Have dinner, organize your summit equipment, and rest early because you will start the climb to Uhuru Peak during the night.
Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Start the summit attempt very early from Barafu Camp, usually around midnight. Trek slowly through the cold and darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim, taking regular breaks to manage the high altitude.
From Stella Point, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, enjoy the views and take photographs before beginning the descent.
Descend back toward Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Enjoy dinner and rest after the long summit day.
