Arusha National Park Day Trip
Arusha National Park Safari

Arusha National Park (ANAPA) is a treasure of varied ecosystems and spectacular views of Mt. Meru, the crater that gives the region its name It is a popular destination for day trip visitors who are about to embark from the town of Arusha on longer northern circuit safaris and Kilimanjaro Climbs. The small national park includes the slopes, summit, and ash cone of Mt. Meru, the Momela Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater, and the lush highland forests that blanket its lower slopes. Game viewing around the Momela Lakes is at a laid-back and quiet pace, and while passing through the forest many visitors stop to search for troupes of rare colobus monkeys playing in the canopy.

Arusha National Park is a multi-faceted jewel, often unnoticed by safari goers, despite offering the opportunity to explore a beguiling diversity of habitats within a few hours. It’s the only place on the northern safari circuit where the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkey can easily be seen. There are shallows sometimes tinged pink with thousands of flamingos dwelling around the Momela Lakes which support a rich selection of resident and migrant waterfowl, and also shaggy waterbucks that display their large lyre-shaped horns on the watery fringes.

Day Tour: (Arusha/ Moshi) – Arusha National Park

In the morning, we shall pick you from your hotel in Moshi/ Arusha and take you to the Arusha National Park. The park has an incredible variety of flora and fauna, which cannot fail to impress. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdo Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and baboons can be seen all year round as well as many different bird species. At the Momella Gate, an armed guard ranger will be waiting to accompany you on your walking safari that will give you a chance to experience the wildlife up-close. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed. Lunch will be taken at a picnic place and in the afternoon, you will continue your tour in the safari vehicle through the Arusha National Park. After plenty of time allocated for you to observe the wildlife, we will take you back to Arusha/ Moshi.

Lake Manyara National Park Day Trip
Lake Manyara National Park

An isolated lake subject to intense evaporation during the dry season, Lake Manyara is a slightly salty lake that is home to hippopotamus, flamingoes, and a large variety of aquatic life. Despite its salt content, it is safe for animals to drink and is a popular watering hole for the park’s animal population. During the wet season, Lake Manyara swells to a sizable body of water perfect for guided canoe safaris. During the dry season, it can shrink to such a small size that it is almost possible to walk across it.

When water is present, it is possible to see klipspringer, rock hyrax, and porcupines by the lake’s edge, and a wide variety of birds including Ruppel’s Griffon, Verreaux’s Eagle, the Augur Buzzard, the Peregrine Falcon, and an abundance of flamingoes call the lake home during the year.

Day Tour: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park

In the early morning, you will be picked from your hotel in Arusha and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. The park embraces the northwest bank and part of the alkaline Lake Manyara which itself rests in the Great Rift Valley. The park is best known for its flamingos, pelicans and cormorants but it is also the home for a hundred-other migratory and none-migratory bird species; it is therefore a paradise for ornithologists. Next to a great variety of birds, the “Big Game” can also be seen. With a bit of luck, you might see elephants in the wooded regions and with even more fortune the tree-climbing lions. Undeniably, it was thought for a long time that the Lake Manyara National Park is the only place where lions can be found with this peculiar behaviour of climbing trees. Baboons and vervet monkeys are also found amongst the forested areas and in the more open spaces, giraffes snack at the fresh leaves while the various types of antelopes common to the region browse for tasty shoots. After a picnic lunch, there will be more time for further game and wildlife watching before it is time to return to Arusha.

Ngorongoro Crater Day Trip
Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtakingly beautiful setting and the best place in Tanzania to see the Big Five. However, as one of the world’s most astonishing and renowned natural wonders, the Ngorongoro Crater does get busy, and at times very busy. Due to the crowds we recommend a two-night stay only here, then moving on to the Serengeti for a quieter, more private safari experience.

Day 1: Arusha/Moshi – Ngorongoro

At 0600 hrs in the morning, be ready for a pick up from your hotel or from your stay in Arusha town, your driver guide will collect your picnic lunches, drive 190 km on tarmac road to Ngorongoro Conservation entry gate. From the gate, drive to the Crater Rim and spend few minutes for awesome view of the Crater from the top, descend into the crater floor for a day game drives. Ngorongoro Crater is one the largest intact caldera in the world and one of the most spectacular sights in the whole of Africa.

All the BIG FIVE Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant live in this wonderful caldera, others are Zebra, Hippo, Wildebeest, Hyena and more… Birds includes flamingos on the Soda lake, Geese, Storks, Vultures and more other bird families.

Your picnic lunch will be served in the Crater picnic site at Ngoitokok swamp, a Hippo pool, after lunch proceeds with afternoon game viewing. At 1500 hrs ascend the Crater and drive back to Arusha.

Maasai Cultural Day Trip
Maasai Cultural Experience Day Tour

The culture is a distinctive character of this fascinating ancestry group of noble people (Maasai) with beautiful and interesting stories every visitor would never want to miss.

Unlike many other tribes in Tanzania, the Maasai are semi-nomadic pastoralists inhabiting northern Tanzania. They live by herding cattle and goats and still exist on a diet of milk, blood, and meat. Nowadays, it is becoming very common in places for the Maasai to supplement their diet with grain.

The Maasai Cultural Villages are a good stop for anyone wanting to spend a day/ night in an authentically constructed Maasai boma or learn about Maasai traditions. You should know that the Maasai have not fared well in modern Africa. They still make their homes in circular enclosures protected by thorny makeshift fences keeping their cattle at the center of the ‘BOMA’ (home).

Chemka / Kikuletwa Hot spring Day Tour

This is probably the best place to swim in Moshi. Emanating from within the earth, the geo-thermally warmed water is constantly renewed and is therefore very fresh and clear and clean. It’s a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours with family and friends, or to relax before or after a climb or safari. Many of our clients have had at least 5 hours for this excursion after some tremendous tiresome days in the wilderness and they all enjoyed it.

The Chemka / Kikuletwa Hot Spring is an oasis in the hinterland of the Kilimanjaro region, 1-2 hours drive from Moshi town. At these restful underground springs with the crystal-clear water, you can enjoy the perfect breather after a strenuous Kilimanjaro climb or adventurous wilderness safari. But also for day trippers, they are an ideal destination for a total peaceful mind rest. For both old and young, the Chemka Hot Springs invite you to linger, swim and explore its amazing natural waters. The pond is very deep, in some places up to 10 meters, but the water is so clear that you can see the bottom well all the time. On the shore under lush trees you can camp, enjoy your snacks or soak up the sun while enjoying this wonderful weather.

Lake Natron Day Trip

Lake Natron is situated in northern Tanzania on the border with Kenya, close to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The lake is in the vicinity of Ol Doinyo Lengai, which is visible on the southern part. Lake Natron covers an area 56 km (35 miles) long and 24 km (15 miles) wide but the water level changes due to evaporation. The shallow and alkaline lake has different springs, the Ewaso Ng'iro River and different hot springs. The surface of Lake Natron, which has high salt, magnesite and sodium carbonate concentration, is covered with a pinkish-white soda crust.

The area around the lake offers different attractions such as a large number of volcanic implosion craters, numerous waterfalls and ravines with nesting places for Rüppell's Griffon Vultures. Among the most prominent attractions of Lake Natron is the Gelai Volcano, a 2,942 m (9,652 feet) high volcano in the southeastern part, and the archeological site of Peninj, where archeologists discovered the Peninj Mandible – the fossilized teeth of Australopithecus boisei.

Some of the activities at Lake Natron are swimming, a visit to Maasai boma or a simple trek to the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands with numerous craters. The area has a beautiful wildlife

The lake is a breeding place for thousands of Rift Valley Flamingos. They build their nests using the soda flats between August and October. The flamingos of lake Natron feed with the lakes Spirulina algae. Because the flamingos use this area for breeding the lake and its surrounding is under the International concern for preservation. Other animals which inhabit this area are zebra, ostrich, fringed eared oryx, gazelle, gerenuk, lesser kudu and golden jackal.

Hadzabe Cultural Day Trip Tour

Hadzabe Cultural Day Trip tour offers you a unique opportunity to visit the traditional homeland of the Hadzabe (or Hadza) peoples, one of the last surviving hunter-gatherer tribes in the world, and to meet their neighbors, the Datoga peoples.

They grow no food, raise no livestock, and live without rules or calendars. They are living a hunter-gatherer existence that is little changed from 10,000 years ago. What do they know that we’ve forgotten?

A Tanzania Cultural Experience

The Hadzabe tribe of Tanzania is the last true nomadic tribe of Africa. Kilinge Adventures can take you on an amazing adventure with the Hadzas. You will join the men as they hunt for their daily subsidence using traditional bow and arrows, or join the women as they forage for fruits and berries. This is not a show or a “tourist put on”. This is the real deal. A true Tanzania cultural tour experience, not for the faint of heart.

The Hadza

About one hour’s drive south west of Karatu (on the outskirts of the Ngorongoro Crater), lays Lake Eyasi, one of the rift valley lakes that are situated in Tanzania. It is a shallow seasonal lake that fills with water after rains and subsequently playing host to a myriad of bird species and providing water for the Hadzabe Bushmen tribe. The Hadza are the last functioning hunter-gatherers in Africa. Their language is similar to the Southern Africa’s Bushmen who speak the click language and their language is believed to still have the clicks and pops like no other “click language” up to the now. It is believed that about 10000 years ago the more hostile tribes of the Maasai and Iraqw (Mbulu), displaced this small African Bushman tribe from the Ngorongoro Crater and the Crater highland forests and they settled to their present day land around Lake Eyasi. The tribe is comprised of very few inhabitants of the Lake Eyasi area; estimated at about just one thousand. These African Bushmen do not rear cattle or produce farm produce at any time and rely fully on hunting and gathering of fruits and berries for their up keep. With their strong bows whose string is made out of giraffe tendons they are able to bring down small animals like dik diks, baboons, monkeys, large and small birds, to large game animals like zebras, giraffes, and buffaloes. The arrows are treated with a poison extracted from a tree well known to them.

Foraging

Hadza men usually forage individually, and during the course of day usually feed themselves while foraging, and also bring home some honey, fruit, or wild game when available. Women forage in larger parties, and usually bring home berries, baobab fruit, and tubers, depending on availability. Men and women also forage co-operatively for honey and fruit, and at least one adult male will usually accompany a group of foraging women. During the wet season, the diet is composed mostly of honey, some fruit, tubers, and occasional meat. The contribution of meat to the diet increases in the dry season, when game becomes concentrated around sources of water. During this time, men often hunt in pairs, and spend entire nights lying in wait by waterholes, hoping to shoot animals that approach for a night-time drink, with bows and arrows treated with poison. The poison is made of the branches of the shrub Adenium coetaneum.

The use of trees and plants

One of their ancient skills is how to make fire from rubbing some wood, the Commiphora tree. Other uses of some trees include using the same Commiphora tree to extract the sap that is believed to be a mosquito repellent. They use the Sansaveria tree to make a snake bite cure and the aloe vera is used by the African Bushman as a treatment for cut wounds. The Baobab fruits are used for making a nice drink. What has kept the Hadza at the same place for so long is believed to be they habit of not using calendars and not counting time. The Hadzabe Bushmen are said to use only the different stages of the moon to count time. They do not own belongings other than what they need for survival like the bows and arrows and some pots for cooking. These hospitable tribal men are equal and there is no one superior to the other in their society.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park, one of the hidden jewels of Tanzania. This park measures 2,600 sq km’s and boasts a concentration of wildlife second only to Ngorongoro Crater. It features an impressive amount and array of birdlife and plant life.

The park offers views of grass and floodplains with impressive baobab and flat topped acacia trees scattered throughout. During the dry season the park may look quite ordinary, but activities continue even more earnestly due to the now increased competition.

Many of the animals leave the area of the Tarangire River at the beginning of the short rainy season (October/November) as water may be found elsewhere in the park, with less chance of predators homing in for a meal. The second “migration” occurs at the beginning of the rainy season in March.

Day Tour: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

We shall pick you from your hotel in Arusha and drive 2-3 hour towards Tarangire National Park. Previously before park status inaction, this region, people often went on big game hunting safaris. After the formation of the national parks in 1970, they turned the seasonal marshes and the endless savannah that one sees today into, once again, profitable hunting grounds. Today however, cameras thankfully have replaced the elephant guns. The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in the North Tanzania than any national park and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals.

The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river to quench thirsty. If you visit the park during the dry season, you will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with a little luck, you can also spot a python! This area is during the dry season also a haven for bird watchers with over 550 different species including the Maasai Ostrich -the world largest bird. Around lunchtime, you will stop at a suitable picnic place before the afternoon, taking a meal with a view dedicated to more wildlife watching. Before sunset you will be drive to your hotel in Moshi/ Arusha.
