My name is Thomas Mlanzi, and I am the Kilimanjaro trekking chief guide as well as the Managing Director and founder of Kilinge Adventures.
I was born in Iringa, Tanzania’s southern part region, in villages where people live in poverty and the majority of them do not attend school. Actually, the idea for this company came after I graduated from university, where my beloved parents and other relatives played a significant role in supporting my education, but I was unable to repay them. Due to a lack of job opportunities, I felt compelled to do something that would benefit my family and contribute to society, as there were many young people in need of decent jobs to support their families.
I started as a porter, then went through tour guide certification and license training to become a professional tour guide. Kilinge Adventures was founded after I gained experience as a tour guide.
When you book with Kilinge Adventures either join group tour or private tour, you are helping many young people who are in difficult situations; your assistance and support are what make a difference in the community.

The Kilimanjaro Northern Circuit route is one of the best routes on Kilimanjaro, offering nearly 360 degrees of beautiful scenery including the quiet, rarely visited northern slopes. As the longest route on Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit also has the most acclimatization time and the highest summit success rate. Thus, the Northern Circuit route is highly recommended. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest to Shira Ridge, before crossing the Shira Plateau. The route then heads north and circles clockwise from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, before summiting from the east. Descend is made via the Mweka route.
Kilinge Adventures we offers the Northern Circuit as a nine-day group climb or private climb. A 10-day variation that includes an overnight at Crater Camp is available as a private climb by special request. Crater Camp is a unique place. At 18,865 feet above sea level, it is the highest campsite on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is located just 475 feet below the summit. We offer the opportunity to stay at Crater Camp on the Lemosho and Northern Circuit routes. This option will add one day to the standard itineraries making them the 9 Lemosho Crater Route and 10 days Northern Crater Route.
We leave for the summit during daylight hours and stay at Crater Camp after the summit for better acclimatization. On all other Kilimanjaro routes, only the guides and clients summit while the rest of the mountain crew remains at high camp (i.e. Barafu). Using Crater Camp requires significantly more effort on our part as the entire mountain crew, along with all of the expedition equipment, has to ascend 4,000 feet higher than they normally would. Therefore, there is considerable added cost to do a Crater Camp route. From Crater Camp, one can take an optional one-hour hike to Reusch Crater, or simply explore the areas around Furtwangler Glacier. Reusch Crater is a magnificent sight. It is almost perfectly circular and the ash pit measures 400 feet (120 m) deep and 1,300 feet (400 m) wide. This is rarely seen by tourists. The video below puts the size of the ash pit and crater into perspective.
6 Days Shira Route Climb is one of the less popular route on Mount Kilimanjaro and preferred more for Kilimanjaro Classic Climbs and solo hikers. The Shira route starts at the Londorossi entry point, the same gate is used by the Lemosho route. Again, your hike does not start at the national park border. You drive in your Toyota Landcruiser or Landrover Defender on a bumpy track with a great view of the neighbouring volcano Mount Meru and Arusha Nationl Park. The hike begins at an altitude of 3600 meters in the heath and moorland zone.
The next two days you hike over the Shira Plateau, one of the most beautiful hikes in all of Africa. Here you will see wildebeest, buffalo and sometimes even leopard. The Shira cone, an old crater, rises about 200 meters above the plateau. Along the southern ridge of the Shira Plain there are two dramatic peaks, the Cathedral and the Needle. All this creates a fantastic backdrop that you can enjoy on this route. The Shira Route joins the Machame Route on the third day of the trek. From this point both trails lead to the Lava Tower and the Barranco Valley.
The 9 days Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route Climb is one of the lengthiest, most picturesque routes on Kilimanjaro and it is our ‘secret favorite’. You will traverse through tranquil trails that feature scenic grandeur. In the rainforest the exquisiteness of dawn’s light pierces the lush, emerald sward. Mist embraces the lichen coated bark and the melodic piping of a songbird splits the silence whilst the distinctive blue monkeys swing above. This leads to the smooth surfaces of the stunning Shira Plateau and the magnificent sight of the looming Lava Tower. Barranco Valley provides beautiful sights of the azure glaciers. Vast plains of Savannah are decorated with splotches of wildlife and there is a possibility of encountering elephants or buffalo. The Mweka Route is used to descend and you have a good chance of completing the 9 days Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route Climb due to the advantageous acclimatization conditions. Kilimanjaro captivates the hearts of those who reach the summit but this route exceedingly epitomizes Africa’s magnificence.
This special package Kili Marathon 2023 and Kilimanjaro Climbing will give you opportunity to run the Kilimanjaro Race and Climb Mount Kilimanjaro 8 Days through Lemosho Route.
The Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. As one of the newer routes, Lemosho is a superb choice for your climb. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. Kilinge Adventures specializes in guiding on the Lemosho route. Most of our clients climb Kilimanjaro using this route and they consistently report that they loved it. Thus, Lemosho is highly recommended. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rain forest to Shira Ridge. The Lemosho route crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Crowds are low until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower. Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route. Kilinge Adventures offers Lemosho as an eight day group climb or as a seven to eight day private climb. The seven day variation combines days five and six, going from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp without staying at Karanga. A nine day variation that includes an overnight at Crater Camp is available as a private climb by special request.
The 4 Days Kilimanjaro Short Trek via Machame route by Kilinge Adventures is referred as Special Kilimanjaro Climbing challenge to get to the summit for shortest period of time. It is NOT more affordable than a 6 days Kilimanjaro hike but it is a challenge for most fit hikers. We invite the most fit hikes across the globe to test this special hiking on Kilimanjaro. The majority of participants who join us on a Kilimanjaro Challenge have never done anything like it before and really do have a mountain to climb in every sense of the word. This is what makes our challenges special. Whether you choose to fundraise for a charity close to your heart, or climb to reach a personal goal, we can guarantee that you'll get the greatest sense of achievement on reaching the roof of Africa in the short period of time. If you are not most fit hiker, you can still choose this route and go back before summit!
8 Days Kilimanjaro Machame Route Climb with Crater Overnight is very comfortable Kilimanjaro hike, and it provides enough time for acclimatization. No camp is skipped, also you will have opportunity to explore crater and overnight at the highest camp in Kilimanjaro, the route follows the pattern of hiking to a high altitude during the day and sleeping at a lower altitude at night, despite of crater camp.
The Kilimanjaro Marangu route is often called the tourist route or Coca-Cola route and is both the easiest and the shortest way to the Uhuru summit. Even for tourist who are not fit enough in 5 days Marangu route climb can summit Kilimanjaro easily. It is also the oldest of the routes. The majority of all climbers choose this route because it is mostly easy walking on a well maintained path.
Unfortunately, this route also holds the sad record of the most aborted Kilimanjaro summit attempts. Mostly this is due to bad preparation and overestimation of one’s own abilities. If you show the necessary respect for the route, you will be rewarded with a varied ascent. The Marangu Option has fewer vantage points, as you walk for a long time through high vegetation.
On the other hand, it has the unique advantage of offering small mountain huts with toilets along the way – especially recommended during the rainy season. This route is usually completed in five or six days.
The Umbwe Route takes a direct path to the southern glaciers. The Umbwe Option is without question the most difficult and steepest way to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Due to the demanding stages, we recommend this route only for experienced alpinists. The direct route also unfortunately means that there is very little time for acclimatization.
The special feature of this ascent option is mainly in the first stage. On the very first day you will reach the Umbwe Cave Camp at an altitude of almost 3000 meters between high trees. From there it is only a short detour to visit the caves that give the camp its name. On the second hiking day the Umbwe Route merges with the Machame Route at Barranco Camp.
The Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route
is a challenging climb that requires climbers to be well-prepared and acclimatized to the altitude. It is recommended to go on this tour with a certified guide and a reputable tour company to ensure your safety and success in reaching the summit. This umbwe route climb usually takes around six days, with daily hikes ranging from six to eight hours. The Umbwe Route is a less travelled route, which means climbers can enjoy a more secluded and intimate experience with the mountain.
The Umbwe Route is like no other; a test of endurance amongst the majesty and grace of Kilimanjaro. As you stand proudly on Uhuru Peak at sunrise, you can say that you have conquered Umbwe. Although not technical, this route is arduous and the steep but short physical climb early on in the tour means there’s no time for altitude acclimatization. If you’re undecided or less experienced, try our Machame Route; more gentle but just as amazing.
Marangu route is one of the scenic and easy routes for those tourists climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro Hiking Tours via Marangu climbing route start from Marangu village at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Marangu route is also known as “Coca-cola route” due to its easiest, beautiful scenic and its land escarpment. Those people climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through Marangu route feels comfortable than all other climbers using other Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro routes because Marangu route provide accommodation in huts. Been one of less breathtaking route Marangu route is one of the best route in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and there is no technical climb when climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using Marangu route.
Marangu route start from Marangu gate to Mandara hut and proceeded to Horombo hut, Kibo hut, Gilman’s point as well as Uhuru Peak which is the highest point in Africa at 5895 m. Marangu is also treated as ascending and descending route for itself and Rongai route following the same trend as ascending. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using Marangu route can be done for minimum of five days and considered the less expensive route climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (Cheap Kilimanjaro Hike). The Marangu route does however offer you the option of spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain. This extends the route to a 6-day climbing, greatly increasing your chances of success. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via Marangu route offers not only relative luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route but also soft drinks, mineral water. This extends the route to a 6-day climbing, greatly increasing your chances of success. Hut accommodation on the Marangu route forms one of the main differences, compared to the other routes. It offers you the relative luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route. Mineral water, soft drinks, chocolates and beers are also sold at all the camps on this route. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals. Climbing /Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro using Marangu Route Marangu route is commonly known as Coca Cola route as it is the easier climbing popular route. For many years Marangu route is used to be the most popular Kilimanjaro route. It has now been delegated to number two by the Machame route. This could partly be as a result of the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 5 to 6 days, thereby getting to the summit one day earlier than on the Machame route.
6 Days Rongai Route Climb is suitable Kilimanjaro Solo Hike or Kilimanjaro Private Group Climbs. The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, this route still experiences low crowds. Rongai has a more gradual slope than the mountain’s other routes. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the popular Marangu route, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation).
Rongai is a moderately difficult route, and is highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience. Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, Rongai makes up for this by passing through true wilderness areas for nearly the entire way. Descent is made via the Marangu route. Kilinge Adventures offers Rongai as a seven day group climb or a 6 or 7 Days Kilimanjaro Private Climb. The 6 day variation does not have an acclimatization day on day four at Mawenzi Turn Hut
Kilimanjaro 7 Days Machame Route Known as the “Whiskey” route, the Machame route is now the most popular route on the mountain. The 7 days Machame route climb Kilimanjaro can be accomplished through machame route Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper.

The journey for the key players in the Great Migration, the roughly 1.5 million wildebeest, starts in the south of the Serengeti, with the birth of half a million calves between January and March. A favourite season for many of the seasoned Serengeti guides: the air during these months is full of new life and action. Predators like lions and hyenas are constantly hunting for babies, and thousands and thousands of calves are born within a couple weeks of each other – a feast for the eyes of true wildlife enthusiasts.
When the drought comes in May, the herd moves north, to the Maasai Mara, chomping down the high green grass, quickly followed by the gazelles and zebras. The migration is not without risk: crossing rivers means facing about 3,000 crocodiles, patiently waiting for a kill. Not to mention the famous Serengeti lion population: by far the largest in Africa. Despite the abundance of hoofed meat in this area, life is not easy for these big cats in this unforgiving landscape. But seeing a group of lions collaborating to hunt down a wildebeest is an unforgettable sight.
Then, with the beginning of the short rains in late October, the migration makes its way back into the Serengeti. By December, the herds trek past Seronera – a small settlement in central Serengeti where the official Serengeti Visitors’ Centre is located – to return to their calving grounds again, and the circle is complete.
This migration, month by month, is shown on the map below – the moving red represents the main herds.
